CIPP Handbook

Construction Industry Partnership for Protection
A Construction Industry Handbook for Employees

CSC developed this handbook to provide construction companies and their employees an easy to use reference and supplemental training manual to Chemical Health and Safety Issues that are encountered at most construction sites. This easy to understand handbook has been developed to help construction firms instruct their employees about proper handling of these commonly used chemicals, recognize the dangers of exposure, and meet state and federal health and safety regulations. The handbook is broken down into four main sections.

Section 1 provides an overview of employee and employer rights and responsibilities, common terms and chemical protection concepts.

Section 2 provides in-depth explanation of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

Section 3 discusses chemical hazards commonly found at construction sites, descriptions of the chemicals, their safe handling and use, and an easy to use index for quick on-site reference.

Section 4 consists of a self test, additional chemical handling procedures, and a signature sheet which indicates that employees have read and understand the material.

Some of the chemicals examined are adhesives and sealants, gases, insulations, fuels, metals, paints, welding and soldering and radioactive materials. The handbook is an excellent training tool for employers to assure proper and safe handling of construction site chemicals by their workers and to provide tradesmen with the knowledge needed to protect themselves from the dangers associated with the most commonly found chemicals. CSC has provided handbooks for over 20,000 workers in a variety of industrial and institutional settings.
