Health Care Partnership For Protection
A Health Care Handbook for Employees
CSC developed this handbook to provide the Health Care industry an easy to use guide,
practical reference and supplemental training to commonly found chemicals in hospitals. This easy to understand handbook has been developed to help health care providers instruct their employees about the proper handling of these commonly used chemicals, dangers of exposure, and to meet state and federal health and safety regulations. The handbook is broken down into four main sections.
Section 1 provides an overview of employee and employer rights and responsibilities, common terms such as exposure pathways, labeling and chemical protection concepts.
Section 2 provides in-depth explanation of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
Section 3 discusses chemical hazards commonly found in hospitals and other health care facilities, descriptions of the chemicals, their safe handling and use, and an easy to use index for quick on-site reference.
Section 4 consists of a self test, additional chemical handling procedures, and a signature sheet which indicates that employees have read and understand the material.
Some of the chemicals examined are biologicals (infectious agents), adhesives and sealants, gases, drugs/pharmaceuticals, insulations, fuels, metals, paints, welding and soldering and radioactive materials. The handbook is an excellent training tool for employers to assure proper and safe handling of health care chemicals by their workers and to provide employees with the knowledge needed to protect themselves from the dangers associated with the most commonly found chemicals. CSC has provided handbooks for over 20,000 workers in a variety of industrial and institutional settings.
